I knew bringing home a newborn would be difficult, but holy crap it's really a challenge. My hormones are all over the place, I'm sleep deprived, and while Truman is cute, that kid has got some lungs on him. We're working on getting him to sleep in his crib, but right now his limit there seems to be ten minutes. And did you know that it's possible to go through three diapers in five minutes? And that one of those diapers will get used before you can even fasten its tabs?
But it's not all bad. I'm fairly certain I can fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans. (only fairly certain because all my jeans died holey deaths around the start of my second trimester) A friend gave me a zappos gift card and whenever I feel completely overwhelmed, I zone out for a few minutes while staring at shoes. I'm currently thinking these might be nice to push a stroller in. Or these. Don't judge me, I love heels and don't plan on stopping loving them just because I may have to visit playgrounds frequently.
Here's where I could say something profound about maintaining my personal identity while becoming a mother, but I won't because that's not really my thing. All I ask is that you bear with me through these first few weeks of all Truman, all the time and things will eventually begin to normalize around here. I'll figure out how to easily leave the house to do things again. I'll go back to whining about things I want, but can't have. At some point soon jparks is bound to squarely plant his foot in his mouth and I'll be there to blog about it. Just hang tight until I gather enough sleep to reach those milestones and you'll be
Congratulations on getting out of the house! The first few weeks are hell, but you'll get into your groove eventually and feel like you can really do this thing.
ReplyDelete1. please tell me you have the happiest baby on the block DVD (who has time for books with a screaming baby? no one.)
ReplyDelete2. those michael kors shoes are awesome, and definitely playground friendly (won't sink into dirt.)
hang in there, it will get better!
I have to say, those Michael Kors wedges are very maternal and cute and would be perfect at a playground.
ReplyDeleteAnd even IF you primarily wear them around the house with your sweats, dancing a jig to avoid getting baby spitup on them, that is OKAY. Because you gave birth and stuff so you're entitled to spoiling yourself when you can.
(I am clearly an expert on motherhood.)
Truman is way precious though. I look forward to more updates!
I second Corey's sentiments: you should be enormously pleased with yourselves for leaving the house at all! Dan and I didn't until Nathan was about 3 weeks old, and that was without him. I don't think we all went out for about 6 weeks.
ReplyDeleteAnd, uh, fitting into pre-pregnancy jeans within two weeks of birth? Jeh-lous! I didn't even try until Nate was a year old, although I am pleased to say that they do fit.
Wow, I'm impressed you guys left the house! I'm pretty sure I'd so be the new mom that stayed holed up inside until I went bonkers!
ReplyDeleteAlso, this post is SEVERELY lacking in the baby photos! I don't care what you post about, I just want to see cute babies!
Dude, you're leaving the house and he's only 10 days old. You are SO ahead of the game, for real! Also, the 10 day mark is like some kind of hormonal milestone and it gets better really soon.
ReplyDeleteThe great thing about a lot of parks around here is that they have that bouncy spongy stuff so you can totally avoid the sand!
ReplyDeleteAlso so jealous that you're into your pre-pregnancy pants!
I 2nd the recommendation of Happiest Baby on the Block. It doesn't have the basics of "is this puke normal?" like The Baby Book or WTE, but it has "here're some ways to calm a screaming baby."
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on getting out of the house!
I love your honesty.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you're doing great. I have a little guy too...the beginning is REALLY hard, so whatever you accomplish is most certainly a victory!
Congrats and all the best to you.
Hang in there, it does get better! Kuddos for pre-preggo pants! I wish...
ReplyDeleteCute shoes!
ReplyDeleteI'm with Kristabella. MOAR BABEE FOTOZ (PLEEZ)
ReplyDeleteHooray for good days! Making it out to Target is a huge accomplishment. You should be proud.
Another vote for the Michael Kors wedges.
Those I feel good and accomplished as a parent days (or moments) are the only way I make it through all those other - I can't even get socks let alone shoes or a diaper on my toddler - days. Am so jealous of you and your jeans.
ReplyDeleteThose T-straps are totally delicious, and I bet your jeans are totally already loose on you. I can't believe you've already left the house! You're totally acing this Mom Thing.
ReplyDeleteAnd hang in there. You had no way of knowing how hard it would be, even if everyone rolls their eyes and crosses themselves at the memory of newborn hell. So be nice to yourself. I hear it gets better!
