If you follow me on twitter than you probably saw my message that said this:
So yeah, yesterday was a fun day at work. I know I haven't ever really spoken about my job here and that was specifically because I (mostly) liked my job and didn't want to lose it. Too late now! The deal is that we were technically still a start up and we needed more funding. Funding that my bosses were expecting to get, but couldn't come up with. Funding that would have covered my next paycheck. So yesterday our whole sales team and service team, which is the team I was part of, was laid off.
Now, it's not all bad news. The company isn't going away. I was offered a small amount of work as a contract employee (small like 3 to 6 hours a week). It's not enough money to make up for my newly missing salary, but it's something. Because I'm thinking that with the economy totally sucking and this:
that finding a job might be kind of difficult.
This wasn't exactly the way I planned on spreading the news but now seems like as good of a time as any. I was hoping that I could wait until I had an ultrasound with a picture of something resembling a human, but the only picture I have so far makes it look like I'm birthing a bean, and my doctor's appointment next week is sans ultrasound. So, you'll have to make due with a picture of something I peed on. But I peed on it just for you! You're so special!
I'm due August 11, and I swear it's a boy even though I have no hard evidence to support this, only a fear of smegma and football.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to get back to daytime tv. Kristabella has given me unemployment advice and it seems I'm not in need of a shower but I do need to figure out what channel Soapnet is so I can watch old 90210 and the OC. Good times!
Wooo hooo! Except for the job part.
ReplyDeleteUm, YAY!
ReplyDeleteAnd, if you don't have the daytime tv schedule memorized in one week, I'll be very disappointed in you.
Oh, by the way? I totally have the Facts of Life song in my head now. I'm holding you responsible for this.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the non-job part of your news! I'm sure you'll be able to find a job, just be upfront with your potential employer! Or maybe jparks can get a huge raise.
ReplyDeleteWe had a bit of a scare after switching to FIOS when we didn't see SOAPNet on the channel guide. Phew, it was there, just missed it. What would we do without weekend 90210 marathons?
The job part sucks, but this baby thing is awesome. Congratulations.
ReplyDeleteWell, the whole shitty job situation aside, CONGRATS! I am sure the little bean you're currently cooking will be one awesome bean - with an appropriate love for shoes, of course.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the baby! I'll cross my fingers for more than 3-6 hours of work for you!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the baby! Sorry to hear about the job. Boy oh boy.
ReplyDeleteYou know that I must now knit a hat for the bebeh to be. Too bad I can't knit you a job too.
ReplyDeleteYAY! Babies Rock! You're the 3rd August baby that I know of in my friends, so apparently August 2009 is a good month!
ReplyDeleteLets just say that you're practicing for SAHM early! Fun! Also, YAY BABY! (and I'm so glad that I can say that now!)
So, I was telling my husband that I know a ton of people who are pregnant or have recently had a baby, and I'm pretty sure you're like number 30 something on my list. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteBut think of the money you'll save on maternity clothes!
ReplyDeleteCongrats!
Girl, Wow! Congrats on the baby! Hope you've been feeling great. Good luck with the job search.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, sorry about your job.
ReplyDeleteBut, YAAYYYYY! Congratulations on the bebe! August 11th was my son's due date. (Although he came early.)
Yay! And bummer!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on gettin' knocked up!! This is a much more pleasant topic of conversation for the next fluffy book club than the sucktards who laid you off.
ReplyDeleteIf Whitney could knit you a job, I'd commission her to do it.
More time for snarky television commentary... hooray! Until August 11, that is.
ReplyDeleteCONGRATS on the baby.
you are birthing a baby! HOOORAY!
ReplyDeletebut i am so sorry to hear about your job. that totally blows.
Regan...Congrats on the baby news...you're gonna make a great Mom...and that kid of you're is going to hold the record for the most pictures taken of any single kids ever. The way to take pictures, you'll need several dozen external hard drives to store all the data. Just kidding..kind of. And Sorry about being laid off. Believe me, I understand. I've been laid off since August...right around the time people started talking about the crappy economy. It sucks not having a job, but I'm optimistic that I'm going to find something and I know that you will as well. I know something will come your way.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to take this moment to "officially" welcome you to the pregnancy club. =) We don't party all night, can't drink, can't smoke, and certainly can't do drugs. In fact, our party favors include stretch marks, nausea, and the eventual inability to shave our own legs or even put on shoes. However, rumor has it that at the end of all this we'll be glad we went through it. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the job. =( More time for putting your feet up and keeping your husband from nesting TOO much. ;)
Wonderful news, Regan. (I'm ignoring the sucky job part. ) I'm so happy for you and jparks. And yes, smeg and football can seem scary, but I know you'd handle it all in stride. 'Cause if you have a girl, you might have to let her borrow some of your shoes one day. THAT should seem scary!!!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!! CONGRATULATIONS! We are very excited for you and I think you should target for Aug 5th, so our kids can have the same birthday :-) And, I am TOTALLY getting you that skull and crossbones bottle and the matching binkie leash when we get to Sydney.... we'll bring it back when we visit in August!
ReplyDeleteSecond, I didn't think you could be laid-off while you were pregnant. That is so un-Californian! But the unemployment benefits in California are pretty good so get yourself signed up for those ASAP. It's better to not be working while your pregnant anyway, gives you more time to rest and take care of yourself! Oh, and Adam says to go ahead and get your kid on the Google day care list b/c it's a loooonnnngggg list.
I'm not so sure you'll be able to out-photograph Linda.
ReplyDeleteAug def seems to be a good baby month! And June :-)
Congrats on the baby news. That is so exciting. I'm sorry to hear about the job. But with the weather we are having it's kinda like getting the summer off.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry about the job situation. But they BABY??? HURRAY!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations.
I should not let posts pile up in my reader EVER AGAIN!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the jobby job, but YAY for the baby making! That is very exciting! Congrats to uou and JParks!
Oh dear. Welcome to unemployment, baby. I've been here for 3 months now, although this is my second tour of duty this year. And my pee stick is now 2.5 years old. So sorry about the loss of your job but congratumothereffinlations on the baby!
ReplyDeleteWhoa, that's a lot of information for one blog post!! I'm sorry about your job, and congrats on the baby!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!! That's so exciting. :D
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally don't do all of that "destiny" bullcrap but maybe it was meant to be, just this once.
Congratulations! Great to hear about the baby! Bummer about the job.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the bean/baby, Regan! Oh, and good luck with the job hunting. I know everything is going to work out as it should.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations about the baby! Now you can receive unsolicited naming suggestions from the entire internet. I bet you can't wait for my epic essay on the forcefulness of various syllable patterns.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear about your job. Losing a job you like must be a bummer. Contrary to platitude, sometimes you neither get what you want nor get what you need. (singing "but you find sometimes, somehow, you get pregnant"?) Good thing you have a constructive, active, TV watching plan to compensate!
congrats Reagen and Jason!!
ReplyDeleteOMMMMMMMGGGGGGG! Congrats! I feel so behind on the news--I mean I knew of your unemployment but not your baby Parks!
ReplyDelete(Sorry, just now catching up on two weeks' worth of Google Reader!)
I thought I commented already. Guess not. Congratulations!
